In the first session, the opening three frames were closely fought. Wu compiled two breaks of 50+ (51 and 61), and although Murphy also made a 50 break, Wu still moved 3–0 ahead. Murphy then responded with breaks of 85, 98, 77 and 109 to win four frames in a row and turn the score around to lead 4–3. Wu replied in frame eight with a 65 break to draw level. The first session ended 4–4.

In the second session, Wu regained his rhythm, starting with breaks of 82 and 103 to take the first two frames. Murphy then capitalized on an opportunity, making a 72 break to pull one back, before Wu won the next two frames to extend his advantage. The final four frames of the session were shared, with each player taking two. Wu therefore leads 10–7 after the second session.

The third session is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. Beijing time on May 4. It will consist of eight frames. If the match is still not decided, a fourth session will follow at 2:00 a.m. Beijing time on May 5, with up to 10 frames to be played.
